THE STACK

  • Translucid #2, BOOM! Studios

    • Claudio Sanchez & Chondra Echert (W), Daniel Bayliss (A), Adam Metcalfe (C)

      • The issue further delves into the backstory of the young boy Cornelius. We also get a glimpse of the first meeting between The Navigator and The Horse.

        • GOOD: Sanchez and Echert’s writing continues to pummel us with difficult decisions to make as readers. The Horse is looking like less of a villain Cornelius’ rough childhood holds nothing back. On the art side, page four’s “Pretty Little Horses” scene shows off the amazing artistic tag team of Bayliss and Metcalfe. These guys just work so well together. The subliminal horse imagery throughout this issue also warrants a second read-through. Ending throws you for a loop.

        • BAD: We still don’t know too much.

          • FINAL RATING: 5 PEWS

KEEPIN' IT REEL

  • Godzilla, Legendary Pictures

    • Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen

      • The world's most famous monster is pitted against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

        • GOOD: New monster movie for the current generation. Breath of fresh air after so many zombie movies. The halo jump scene is one of the most gripping moments in the movie, beautifully done. Many nods to old-school Godzilla like “squaring up” with his opponents, bringing him back to being a monster fighter, and “savior ending”.

        • BAD: Cheesy foreshadowing lines in the beginning. Very convenient direction for main character. Johnson’s “good soldier” character doesn’t allow for any development. Many people will also go to this movie expecting lots of Cranston… you will be sorely disappointed.

          • FINAL RATING: 4 PEWS
