The Stack

  • Godzilla: Awakening, DC Comics

    • Max and Greg Borenstein (Writers), Eric Battle, Yvel Guichet, & Alan Quah (Illustrators), Lee Loughridge (Colors)

      • As with Pacific Rim, this graphic novel sets up the upcoming Godzilla movie, explaining the origins of MUTOs and sets up Godzilla’s rivalry. The graphic novel focuses more on humans, but when we do get Godzilla, it’s gorgeous artwork and epic scenes.

        • GOOD: Almost watercolor-like artwork, which works well with the Japanese setting. The actual Godzilla artwork is gorgeous. Hypes you for the movie.

        • BAD: For being about Godzilla, there’s not a ton of the big guy in it. Action scenes are also somewhat difficult to follow. Art seems hurried at times.

          • FINAL RATING: 3 PEWS

App of the Week

  • Knights of Puzzelot, Glu Games

    • Match-3 gameplay with RPG elements.

      • GOOD: Quick and easy to pick up. Loot system keeps gameplay fresh.

      • BAD: Suffers from most F2P game issues, like having to wait for “energy” to refill to continue progress, premium currency offers, and no way to earn said premium currency outside of paying real money. The later levels also require some grinding in previous levels.

        • FINAL RATING: 3 PEWS

Keepin’ It Reel

  • Neighbors, Universal Pictures

    • Starring Seth Rogan and Zac Efron.

      • A couple with a newborn baby must deal with an unruly fraternity house for next-door neighbors.

        • GOOD: Lot’s of comedian cameos, with highlights on The Lonely Island and Workaholics crews. Ending fight scene is great.

        • BAD: Pacing was terrible. The “moral” was covered under crude humor. Comedy was split between older “been there” humor and younger “dick and fart” jokes, parting the audience. Most of the funny scenes are shown in the trailer, save for the ending fight scene.
